- Note*: Colin Elliot Morris Colin opened the Hi-Lite cafe in Colac in 1941 Obituary for Colin:- Mr Colin Elliot Morris It was with deep regret that the many friends of the late Colin Elliot Morris received the news of his death which took place in the Colac Hospital on June 25. The deceased possessed a genial disposition which will be remembered by all with whom he came in contact. He was keenly interested in Horticulture and his early days were spent in the Mt Macedon district where his services were much in demand for his ability to lay out the gardens of many summer residences which were most popular in that district. He was appointed as head gardener for the Dewey family and another of the gardens for which he was responsible for the laying out was 'Sefton' owned by the Bailleau family. The late Mr Morris married Miss Ethel Inglis, daughter of the late James Inglis ofCororooke and some time later he came to the Colac district where he was engaged in farming pursuits. He later purchased ' Bulambar' at North Cundara which was once owned by Mr T. Bath. There he still maintained his interest in the garden and met with much success as an exhibition at flower shows throughout the district, gaining many aggregate prizes. When Blanes Court was opened, he became the original proprietor of the Hi-Lite and it was there his decorative flair once again became prominent, for the Hi-Lite floral decorations were much admired by the public andmoreespecially, his catering for weddings left nothing to be desired in such a perfect setting. Owing to ill health, the deceased was compelled to retire from business and took up residence at 392 Murray St, Colac West, where his garden claimed his interest and was the admiration of all. The late Mr Morris is survived by his wife Ethel, son Ian, and daughters Gwen, Ethel, and Olive, to whom the deepest sympathy is extended. . . . . . . . In 1941.
