William was known for establishing the Fulham Park Horse Stud in 1874, approx 300 acres of good land with th River Torrens flowing through it. A newspaper article describes him returning to South Australia from overseas with top blood stock. The principal sire at the stud was a champion thoroughbred ' Richmond' which won many top races with Tommy Hales as jockey.
