Wyman was an excellent student, graduating from the Fremont County Vocational High School with a 98 average. He began attending the University of Wyoming as an engineering student, but could only attend as finances allowed. He had only completed a couple of semesters before he left for California, joining the Navy where he served as a crew member on the submarine, U.S.S. Barracuda. Dave left the navy when he was transferred to a battleship and found work as an appliance repairman and manager of Davey's Appliance Store. He eventually became the civil service Director of Telecommunications for the 11th Naval District, working from offices at the 32nd Street base in San Diego.
He married Margaret Braun and had three children, Marjory, Frieda Joyce and D Wyman. They divorced and he married Enid Kenworthy, with whom he had two more daughters, Dale and Barbara.
Dave and Enid owned Cyphert's Aquarium, a tropical fish store in San Diego. He was joined running the store by his brother, Grant, who ultimately went to work for a supplier, Pemco. Their younger brother, Tony had had a camera store in Santa Rosa with "a few fish on the side."
Dave Cyphert was a member of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, although he attended Harbor View Baptist and North Park Baptist after his divorce. He talked to the pastor, Tim LaHaye, and was invited to return to Scott in about 1964, when attending a church with conservative politics became a large concern. - Note*: He The oldest child of A.A. and Esther Cyphert, David was born in Kingsville and named after his uncle, David King. While still a child, he moved with his family to the Wyoming territory.
Dave married Gertrude Pearl Sexton on March 31, 1901 and they produced 8 children.
The oldest child, Virginia Rae, was born on her grandfather's ranch at Dallas. She and the next two children, Albert and Esther were playmates until the flu claimed the two younger children, who died the same week. The older sister was delighted when her mother became pregnant again. When Wyman was born, however, she voiced her disappointment; the other two children had been playmates but this one was just a boring baby who never did anything except "lie there."
After Wyman came Grant, Tony and Grace. The family had moved to town so that Virgie could start school at the age of eight. Grace was born in Oaklahoma, where the family had moved so that Dave could work in the oil fields. They returned to Wyoming later and the bigger children always teased "Sadie Grace" about being an Oakie.
The last baby, Gertrude Jeanne, died as a small childt, an event that threw her mother into some depression. Although she had lost two babies some years before, she was never so sad as with the passing of this Jeanne. One day, standing at the window washing dishes, Gertrude said the cloud just suddenly lifted, all at once, and she felt it had been the Holy Spirit who relieved her.
According to his sister, Mamie, Dave Cyphert only had one "real job" in his entire life when he worked for a time on a ranch. He was inconsistent in his ability to support the family and Gertrude generally was earning an income. She cooked for shepherds, traveling with them in a camp wagon while Wyman was very small. He rolled out of a bed above the stove, burning his face, and he carried the scar for the rest of his life.
After several of her grown children had moved to San Diego during WWII, Gertrude's good friend, LuLu Scott formerly of Lander, offered her an opportunity to manage an apartment court in Coronado. Her youngest daughter, Grace, had few opportunities in Wyoming, so Gertrude decided to take the job, whether Dave wanted to follow or not. He did after a short time and worked as a handyman on the premises.
Dave Cyphert died on May 4, 1942 at Coronado, CA, of a heart attack. His widow insisted, however, that he had never been "right" after falling off a ladder some time previously while working on a house. He was buried at San Diego, CA.

He insisted that his sisters attend school, but he only attended during the winter and studied at his own pace. He did go to singing school later, a extravagance that his daughter, Mamie, claimed was "the only money he ever spent on himself." As an adult he could go into any church choir and sing either tenor or bass. When called on short notice he would always fill in beautifully. He was a champion of music and singing for others as well. He refused to send his youngest sister, Sadie, to school unless she took music classes, and according to his grandson, Tony, he had a singing school of his own while he was still in Pennsylvania.
A.A. worked with Vince Cyphert and Vince's cousin or brother, but had left the Catholic church. Once he became a Baptist, A.A. was not allowed to associate with his Catholic relatives, according to his daughter, Mamie.
A.A. married a Baptist, Esther Beer in 1873. Their first son, David, was born in Kingsville, PA and Laura Edna was born in Elk City, PA. The family began moving west and a third child, Alice Maude, was born in Gads Hill, MO. Frank Almeron was born in Litchfield (either IL or NE) and the three year old Laura was buried in Illinois. Four more children, Ray Hermoine, Mamie Beryl, Albert Reid and Wallace Grovenor, were born in Dallas, Wyoming.
A.A. was an oil driller and left Pennsylvania to drill in Indiana, Illinois, and then Wyoming, where he arrived in the winter of 1884-85. He was brought in to drill the first oil well in Wyoming, called the Murphy Well, which was the beginning of the Dallas oil field. The Dallas field was one of the first oil fields west of the Mississippi and marked the start of the oil business in Wyoming, which remains a significant industry in the state. That first well was still producing in the 1980's and still stands as a landmark just outside Lander, WY.
Although A.A. had originally gone to Wyoming as an oil driller, he liked the area and remained to raise his family. He quit drilling at Dallas in 1901 after the well was acquired by the Franco-American Syndicate. He continued to live at Dallas until about 1917 when he sold his ranch and moved to Lander. He acquired a small ranch on the Little Popo Agie and was active in the development of the community of Lander. He was active in community affairs, a leader in the Republican party, and a state committeeman, representing a large portion of northwestern Wyoming. After he moved west, A.A. corresponded with a cousin, Anthony, who was a county clerk "or something" who sent him Pennsylvania newspapers. [His cousin, Anthony Roland (1-3-3-1), was an oil operator in Clarion Co. and is known to have been an insurance agent and Justice of the Peace with offices at the Clarion County Courthouse.] A.A. also corresponded with another cousin, C.E. [I presume this to be Curtis Elmer (1-3-8-3), whose boyhood home stood in the middle of a producing oil filed and was known to have corresponded with a cousin "out west."] Esther Beer's brother, Solomon, had married A.A. Cyphert's older sister, Martha, creating another set of "double cousins" who moved to Wyoming as well.
A.A. Cyphert was the postmaster at Dallas, WY for about 27 years, along with his wife, Esther Beer Cyphert. She is sometimes listed as the postmistress and elsewhere as the assistant postmaster. The 48 star U.S. flag that flew over that post office was donated by grandson Dave Cyphert to the Frontier Museum in Lander in about 1974. Nothing remains of the town of Dallas, which was located where a tree now stands at the corner of the road to the Murphy Well. A barn built by A.A. Cyphert still stands just outside Lander. He is said to have been caught in a tornado; he hid under his wagon and everything disappeared except him and the wagon's bull wheel.
Esther Beer Cyphert was buried without a headstone at Lander, near the graves of her grandchildren, Pearl, albert and Jeanne, who share a single stone.
Every one of his grandchildren agreed that A.A. was a wonderful, kind man. He died in Southgate, CA, after a short illness and is buried at Lander, WY.

William R. and Samuel received nothing at their father's death, having 'all got their shares in land I sold to them.' The will was witnessed by: Jonathon Coleman & Robert Allison, Sr. Regarding place of burial: Mt. Calvary is located at a crossroad in Kingsville. It can be confusing. Limestone Memorial is located at Limestone which used to be Greenville. It's more probable that they would be in Mt. Calvary at Kingsville since Limestone, Pa. would be so much further away from where they lived around Kingsville. I suppose by this time there are no headstones, or they are illegible. Barb I just read your very interesting letter about your trip to the cemetery with your brother. Someone told me a long time ago that there used to be a church there many years ago and that the church now located in Kingsville on the C-L road near the Olean Rd was built in place of it. I'm not sure of the name of it. It's the church where the first Cyphert Reunion was held in 1923. Would your brother be able to find out if the cemetery records are there? Also, there may be baptismal and marriage records of Anthony's descendants. Yes, if your pictures turn out good, please, put them online. I'm sure the others would be interested in seeing them, too. I've never been able to find any records for Anthony in the Catholic registers. I've been under the impression that Anthony and Mary were Protestants.

Phillip Cyphert Jr
M, b. 1748, d. 5 September 1823
Pop-up Pedigree
- Birth: Phillip Cyphert Jr was born in 1748 at Lotharingia, Alsace-Lorraine, Germany.1,2,3
- Birth*: He was born in 1748 at Speedwell, At Sea; Shipboard birth is not recorded, but presumed, based on his death at 75 years which placed his birthdate just 20 days prior to the Speedwell's landing in Philadelphia. Philip Jr is not listed on the passenger list for the Speedwell. That record merely provides a passenger list of 240 'souls' including 81 males (of whom Philip Cyphert is one) along with 19 wives, single females, and children.
- He was the son of Phillip Seifert.
- MilServc*: Phillip Cyphert Jr served in the Berks County 3rd, Captain Shradle commanding as a private from 1777. Captain Shradle information comes from muster records and the detachment comes from the Pennsylvania records.4
- MilServc: He served in the Sargent Eisenbies detachment guarding prisoners as a private from from 17 February 1782 to 20 April 1782.5
- Marriage*: Phillip Cyphert Jr married Maria Barbari Ann Grett, daughter of Andreas Grett and Mary Magdelena (?), on 2 November 1784 at Christian Henrich's house, Asperum Collem, Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA.6
- Residence*: Phillip Cyphert Jr lived from 3 November 1784 to 1799 at Bern Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA; lived on his father's farm in Berks County. Philip Seivert paid the property taxes on the family farm from 1762 to 1798. In 1799 Joseph Cyphert started paying the taxes.
- Cen-Head*: Phillip Cyphert Jr is head of household in the 1790 US Federal Census of Bern Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA and household contains 1 male over 16, 3 males under 16 and 2 females. Enumerated with Phillip Cyphert Jr was Maria Barbari Ann Grett, Phillip Cyphert III, Catherine Cyphert and Anthony Cyphert.7
- Occupation*: Phillip Cyphert Jr was Constable in 1792 at Bern County, Pennsylvania, USA.
- Immigration*: He immigrated in 1799 to Unity Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, USA. With other Catholic families of the Shartlesville vicinity, Philip moved to Unity Township.
- Anecdote*: Philip was among the 75 subscribers to the new log church in Sportsman Hall in Latrobe.
- Cen-Head*: Phillip Cyphert Jr is head of household in the 1800 US Federal Census of Unity Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, USA enumerated as Philip Syphert and has 2 males under 10, 2 males 10 to 15, no males between 16 and 25, 1 male between 28 and 44, and no males over 44. There are 3 females under 10, 1 female between 10 to 15, no females between 16 and 25, 1 female between 26 and 44, and no females over 44. Enumerated with Phillip Cyphert Jr was Maria Barbari Ann Grett, Mary Magdelen Cyphert, Suzie Cyphert, Elizabeth Cyphert, Phillip Cyphert III, Anthony Cyphert and Solomon Cyphert.8
- Death*: Phillip Cyphert Jr died on 5 September 1823 at Unity Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, USA; on 5 Sept 1823 according to the Westmoreland Republican of 12 Sept 1823. We was 75 years old and left an "aged widow and 10 children."9
- Note*: He Phillip Seivert listed as constable of Bern county, succeeded in 1792 byJoseph Seyfert. (This Philip had been paying property taxes in Bern Township, and his brother, Joseph, took them over in 1799. Presumably,he had taken over the civic responsibilities several years earlier.) Paid property taxes in Bern Twp, Berks Co. 1762-1798. service in American Revolution. He would have been 34 years old and still single. Penna. Archives, 5th Series, Vol. 5, page 292: Sargeant Geo. Eisenpeis detachment of Berk's Co.militia guarding convention prisoners. Philip Seifert, private, - entry 20 Feb.1782; discharge April 20, 1782 - 60 days of service. The muster rolls from the Pa site says he served with Capt. Jacob Shradle Muster Card: Phillip Seiferd's muster card for the American Revolution. He was in Berks County when he served in the 3rd Battalion under CaptainJacob Shradle. I also found Phillip Seifert years later in 1791(possibly filing for benefits at that time) Here is a few other items on the cards that might be of interest. Thefirst one had a date on it of 1777 to 1778. And there was a Muster fines £0.7.6 http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us and follow to ARIAS. Youwill find and be able to print Phillip Seifert's muster card for servicein the American Revolution. http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us/archive.asp?view=ArchiveItems&ArchiveID=13&FID=567285&LID=567384&FL=S&Page=8 You need to understand the make up of the units during that time period. When there is a company under a certain regiment, it has a tendency to be named or referred to by the Captains name, as that is the top rank for the company commander then. I will bet that Sgt Eisenbeis is in this Captains Company or at that in 1782 he might be in Sgt Eisenbeis Company. But to know this for sure, I would need to look at the muster rolls for the companies. As if you look at the Card from the PA archive, it is listing the dates 1777 to 1778. So knowing that he was in the Militia, it is possibly that he is in one company one time and in a now when he is called out again. Plus, it was common 18th century military practice to be transferred from one company to another depending on units’ needs and strengths. A detachment would be a small party out of the main Company. The basic breakdowns of most 18th century Companies are a Captain, 2 Lieutenants and an Ensign for the officer staff (Now some had more then this also). Then for enlistment men each company is normal made up of about 100 men. This would include 2 sergeants, 4 corporals and a drummer plus the rest as privates. Philip Cyphert had remained on his father's farm until his father'sdeath, but apparantly gave up all citizenship duties at that time. In1799 he moved to Westmoreland County, Unity Township, with 7 children, stopping in ?? Creek, Butler County enroute. He moved with a group ofCatholic families who built the church at Crates. Philip Cyphert wasamong 75 subscribers to a log church at Sportsman's Hall at Latrobe, PA,1799. 1790 Census lists Philip living with 3 males under sixteen and 2 females.Although Philip is elsewhere listed as having 10 children, it appearsthat this may refer to 10 surviving children. 1800 Census lists Philip Syphert at Westmoreland County 1810 Census listsPhil Syphert at Westmoreland County, living with Barbari, Mary Magdelen,Roseanna, John, and one other male under 10 years. 1820 Census lists Phil Syphert at Westmoreland County with Rosanna, Mary Magdelene, Barbari, John, Philip and one other male under 10
Phillip, Jr was an infant when his father, Phillip Seifert, immigrated aboard the Speedwell in 1749, arriving as one of the unnamed children, single females and 19 wives who appear in the total count of 240 "souls." His birthplace has been listed as Lotharingia Alsace-Lorraine in 1748.
Philip Seifert fought in the American Revolution, serving from February 17 to April 20, 1782 with Sgt. Eisenbeis' company.
On November 2, 1784, Philip married Maria (her baptismal name) Barbari Ann Grett, who had been born to Andrew and M. Magdalene Grett in 1760 at Windsor Twp, (now Berks Co.) PA. The couple married at the home of Christian Henrich in Asperum Collem (Sharp Mountain). They made their home on his father's farm in Berks County, where Philip Seivert paid property taxes in Bern Township from 1762-1798. He was listed as a constable, succeeded by his brother Joseph Seyfert in 1792. In 1799 Joseph took over the tax obligations on the property as well.
With other Catholic families of the Shartelsville vicinity, the couple moved with their seven children to Unity Township (near Greensburg) in Westmoreland Co. Philip Cyphert was among 75 subscribers to a log church at Sportsman's Hall at Latrobe in 1799.
By 1810, Philip and Barbari Syphert were living at Westmoreland County with their youngest daughters Mary Magdelen, 12, and Roseanna, 2 and two boys, John, 7 and one other boy "under ten." Philip and Barbari Cyphert had ten surviving children, Philip III (1-1), Catherine (1-2), Anthony (1-3), Elizabeth (1-5), Susanna (1-6), Solomon (1-7), Mary Magdelene (1-8), Henry (1-9), John (1-10) and Rosanna (1-11). Another son, Joseph (1-4), as well as the youngest child listed on the 1810 census, seem not to have reached adulthood.
Philip died at Westmoreland County, PA, on Friday, September 5, 1823. Soon after, his widow and some or all of their children, along with other Catholic families from Berks County, moved west to Kingsville in Armstrong County (becoming part of Clarion when that county was formed in 1839). There was possibly a short stay enroute at Sugar Creek at the border of Armstrong and Butler County.
In the Kingsville area, the Cyphert families and purchased farms in an area of "extreme hardships and much danger." The missionary priests from Philadelphia traveled "roads [that] were only narrow trails through the forests which were still infested with Indians and wild beasts, such as panthers, wolves and wild cats, and the only means of travel was horseback or afoot and the streams and rivers were then not spanned by even the rudest bridges."
In 1828 Fr. John O'Neill organized a Catholic congregation known as the Church at Redbank or Arondale. Church services were held in the home of Solomon Cyphert and in 1834 the colony was granted permission to build a church. On land provided by Joseph Aaron, the congregation "felled the trees, hewed with axes the logs and erected a log chapel thirty-six feet in length," St. Nicholas of Tolentino.
Barbary Ann Cyphert died June 9, 1843 in Limestone, Clarion Co., PA and is buried at St. Nicholas, in Crates, PA.
Henry, born in 1800, is recorded in Catholic Baptisms in Western Pennsylvania, 1799-1824 as the son of Philip and Catherine Cyphert. The baptismal sponsors were Henry and Catherine Kuhn, and it is thought that the priest erred in recording both the mother and the sponsor with the same name.

St. Nicholas of tolentino
Born in 1245 in Sant'Angelo, St. Nicholas of Tolentino took his name from St. Nicholas of Myra, at whose shrine his parents prayed to have a child. Nicholas became a monk at 18, and seven years later, he was ordained a priest. He gained a reputation as a preacher and a confessor. C. 1274, he was sent to Tolentino, near his birthplace. The town suffered from civil strife between the Guelphs, who supported the pope, and Ghibellines, who supported the Holy Roman Emperor, in their struggle for control of Italy.Nicholas was primarily a pastor to his flock. He ministered to the poor and the criminal.
In a document written in 1948 the reverend Alfred M. Watson said "It seems likely that the name was chosen because of the devotion of the people to St Nickolas, a popular saint along the Rhine"

- Death*: Joseph S. Seyvert died on 7 August 1821 at Shartlesville, Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA.1,2,3
- Note*: He 1790 Census Joseph was living with two males OVER 16 (Jonathan and John), four females (wife Catherine, daughter elizabeth, and either daughters not recorded or perhaps servants or other relatives), and 5 males under 16(Simon, Philip, Daniel, and two others). The History of Berks County states that Joseph had 7 sons, but I presently have names for only 6. Joseph's name was rather consistently recorded as Seyvert or Seyfert, while his brother's was usually spelled Sauvert, Seifert or Cyphert. Joseph became a miller and a farmer. He began paying taxes on hisfather's Berks County property as of 1799 when his brother, Phillip, moved to Westmoreland County.
Joseph Seyfert, the second son of Philip Cyphert was born at Shartlesville, Berk Co., PA. He married Catherine. He succeeded his older brother, Philip Jr. as a constable in 1792 and took over the tax obligations of their father's farm in Berks County in 1799. Joseph Seyfert is listed as one of the early Catholics of Reading, PA, where sacraments were first recorded in 1765 as a mission of Goshenhoppen.
